A woman was hit and killed by a garbage truck in West Los Angeles Thursday morning, officials said.
The truck hit the woman at 8:05 a.m. in the 8900 block of West 3rd Street, according to the Los Angeles Department of Sanitation.
The truck was backing up when it struck the woman, who was crossing the street behind it, according to the Sanitation Department spokesman.
The Los Angeles Police Department hasn't identified the deceased woman, whose next-of-kin weren't been notified.
The woman's body was removed from the scene just after noon, LAPD Sgt. Richard Baeza said.
The truck driver was being questioned, Baeza said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department, Mayor's Crisis Management Team and Sanitation Department executives were on scene.
