Twitter Tip Leads Police to Man Allegedly in Possession of Child Porn

A laundromat manager from Rancho Cucamonga was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of possession of child pornography thanks to a tip from Twitter, police said.

On March 15, Twitter became aware of a child porn image uploaded by a user and, as federally mandated, filed a report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.

Detectives served a search warrant at the home of 34-year-old Fred Salazar and took him into custody after examining his electronic devices, police said.

Salazar was released from custody Tuesday night after posting $50,000 bail.

Police said Salazar lives near an elementary school, and there could be more victims.

Neighbors were stunned at the accusations against Salazar.

"He seemed like a really nice guy," Julio Escoto, a neighbor, said. "I'm just speechless. I don't know what to say. I'm really shocked."

One other resident however said she was concerned with Salazar's behavior toward her daughters, and warned them to stay away from him.

Anyone with information was asked to call Rancho Cucamonga police at 909-477-2800.

Federal law mandates Twitter and other social media applications to report any posting of child pornography.
