Broken Water Main and Possible Sinkhole Reported in Winnetka

Water was gushing from the center of an intersection in the Valley Thursday morning, according to images capture by NewsChopper4.

The sinkhole was reported at Lurline Avenue and Vanowen Street at 9:53 a.m., according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman. High water pressure was reportedly breaking away pieces of concrete.

10 customers lost service, according to a tweet from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

A police officer in a safety vest was warning traffic away from the intersection and orange cones were set up as NewsChopper4 flew overhead.

The water seemed to be mostly shut off just after 10:20 a.m., leaving a trail of silt behind on the intersection's crosswalks and down one of the streets.

Water was shut off by 10:55 a.m., according to the LADWP. Crews from the utility were on there way to repair the main.
