Stolen Gun Recovered After San Bernardino Traffic Stop

After a struggle with a 6-foot-9, 400 pound suspect, officers recovered a stolen Glock. Additional guns were found in the man's home.

Nearly a dozen guns were recovered from the home of a San Bernardino man after a scuffle with police Monday night.

During a routine traffic stop, Ronald Collins, 55, got out of his truck and began fighting with officers, Lt. Travis Walker said.

During the fight, Collins tried to discard a stolen Glock .40-caliber pistol he was carrying.

Collins, who is 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighs more than 400 pounds, was eventually taken into custody and the gun was recovered by officers.

A search of his home led investigators to additional guns and ammunition, Walker said.

A man who was Collins’ passenger in the truck at the time of the stop at West Baseline and North Massachusetts avenues fled the scene, and officers are still looking for him.

He is described as in his early to mid 20s, around 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He was wearing a red baseball cap and a black jacket at the time of the stop.
