Woman Found Shot to Death in Long Beach Alley

A 21-year-old woman was discovered shot to death in a Long Beach alley early Wednesday morning, police said.

A neighbor reported hearing gunshots around midnight, but it wasn't until they found the victim dead in the alley littered with trash between Orange Avenue and Lemon Avenue, north of 21st Street, (map) that police were called, a Long Beach Police Department news release said.

"During the evening there were several fireworks going off," said a neighbor, Deana Deakin. "I heard a 'kaboom' that sounded like a gunshot."

Responding officers said the woman had been struck by gunfire in her upper body. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene.

The victim was identified by police as Alicia Faith Todd of Signal Hill. She lived less than two miles from where she was found.

"We don’t know who she is," said another neighbor, Kenneth Johnson. "All we know is they found her body in the back this morning."

Police had no information on a possible shooter or motive.
