Worker Dies After Falling 28 Feet at Construction Site

A worker fell 28 feet to his death at a Westlake district construction site Tuesday afternoon.

The death was reported at 1:33 p.m. at 2968 W. Sixth St., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

An online search produced references to a seven-story, mixed-use project at that address.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, fell from scaffolding onto a concrete pile in a subterranean pit, Humphrey said.

The mayor's Crisis Response Team went to the scene to offer assistance to distraught co-workers, some of whom may have been relatives of the victim, Humphrey said.

Cal-OSHA was investigating the workplace death.
