Typhoon Victim Gives Birth After Swimming For Her Life

A baby girl was born at the airport on Monday in the typhoon-ravaged city of Tacloban in the wake of a disaster that has killed thousands of people, NBC News reported. Emily Ortega, 21, gave birth to baby Bea Joy Sagales at an emergency clinic at the airport, which was destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan. The baby was named after her grandmother, who is still missing as of Monday. Ortega was in an evacuation center when the typhoon hit on Friday, forcing her to survive by clinging to a pole, the AP reported. Ortega's husband was in Manila about 360 miles northwest of Tacloban and was unaware of what happened.
