Wal-Mart Extends Black Friday Further Into Thanksgiving

Wal-Mart is now among the growing number of retailers extending Black Friday earlier into Thanksgiving Thursday. The world's largest retailer will be opening its doors at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving, a full two hours earlier than last year.

According to a press release from Wal-Mart, this year's event is the "largest Black Friday plan to date." Shoppers will be able to get "Manager Specials" on a number of items in one-hour increments.

Deals for the 6 p.m. shoppers include a 16 GB iPad Mini WiFi for $299, a Furby Boom! for $29, and a Funai 32" HDTV for $98, among others. Other specials will run at 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. through 2 p.m. on Black Friday. Shoppers who venture into the retailer looking for a deal and stand in line within an hour of the promotion will receive a wristband guaranteeing them certain products.

Other national chains will also be moving up their door busters. Macy's, Target and JC Penney will be opening at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving while Best Buy will join Wal-Mart for a 6 p.m. opening. Some Toys"R"Us locations will be opening as early as 5 p.m. Kmart will open starting at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving day and stay open for 41 hours straight.
