Dodgers Fall to Nationals 5-3 in Wacky 20 Hour Game

It may have taken over 20 hours, and the better part of two days, but the Nationals finally defeated the Dodgers 5-3 on Saturday in a game that was started on Friday night, and suspended due to a lighting outage.

Matt den Dekker hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, and the Washington Nationals defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 on Saturday morning in one of the weirdest games in recent memory.

The near 20-hour game featured three separate lighting delays on Friday night, ultimately leading in the game being suspended overnight where it was resumed on Saturday morning.

Mike Bolsinger started the game on Friday evening for the Dodgers and pitched well in between delays, allowing just one run on two hits in four innings.

Chin-Hui Tsao relieved Bolsinger on Friday, surrendering a two-run, go-ahead home run to Yunel Escobar after the first delay, and right before the second delay began. Tsao started (or restarted, rather), the game on Saturday, pitching one inning of scoreless relief before the bullpens took over.

Adrian Gonzalez hit two home runs for the Boys in Blue, his 20th and 21st long balls of the season. Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to put the Dodgers ahead briefly 2-1, and hit another home run on Saturday to "restart" the game off for Los Angeles and tie the game at 3-3.

Pedro Baez (2-2) struck out Wilson Ramos in the bottom of the seventh inning, before giving up the game-winning homer to den Dekker with two outs in the eighth.

Casey Janseen (1-2) picked up the win for the Nationals, pitching one inning of scoreless relief, Drew Storen earned his 28th save of the season after a relatively easy ninth inning.
