Dodgers Eliminated From Playoffs

Clayton Kershaw was working a shut out before giving up a three-run home run in the seventh inning, and it would be all the St. Louis Cardinals needed to knock the Los Angeles Dodgers out of the playoffs.

The Dodgers fell to the Cardinals 3-2 in Game 4 of their best-of-five National League Division Series on Tuesday.

Kershaw was the starter on three days rest in place of Dan Haren. He pitched a one-hitter and had a 2-0 lead in the seventh until the Cardinals strung together three straight hits, capped by Matt Adams's three-run shot.

The Dodgers did their scoring in the sixth inning on a double-play grounder and an RBI single by Juan Uribe.

The Dodgers tried to send the series back to LA without starting their slumping All-Star, Yasiel Puig. He was benched by manager Don Mattingly, who said Andre Ethier was a better option. Eithier often has been the odd-man out in a crowded outfield.
