Hot off the heels of its gangbusters Marni collaboration, H&M is rumored to be working with avant-garde Belgian retailer, Martin Margiela, WWD reports.

While the collection hasn't been confirmed by either retailer—“We never comment on rumors," an H&M spokeswoman told WWD—the rumor alone will be enough to ignite the imaginations of shoppers everywhere.

The rumor is especially intriguing given the secretive nature of the House of Margiela, which is still closely associated with its founder (a former member of the infamous Antwerp Six and often credited for bringing Belgian fashion to the forefront of the industry), despite its Diesel buy-out in 2002.

While H&M has collaborated with top-notch industry talent, including Commes des Garcons and Stella McCartney, a partnership with Margiela would heighten the Swedish retailer's fashion credibility even further.

Should the rumor be confirmed, we expect to see controversy in the industry over whether or not the Belgian label has sold its soul to fast fashion.
