Overturned Fruit Truck Puts Squeeze on Drivers in Castaic

The truck crashed on the 5 Freeway near Parker Road

A truck carrying fruit overturned and caused a major traffic jam on a freeway in Castaic Wednesday morning.

One person was hospitalized in the crash, which happened on the Golden State Freeway near the Parker Road exit at 1:30 a.m., said highway patrol officials.

Two northbound lanes and one southbound lane of the freeway have been closed while workers remove the spilled fruit. The lane closures are expected to be in place until about 8 a.m.

The driver hit the center divider, which caused major damage to his truck. The grapefruits spilled  over some of the southbound and northbound lanes.

The driver was hospitalized, but details regarding his condition were not immediately available, said CHP officials.
