Jack White Angers Fans After Cutting Short Radio City Gig

Raconteurs and White Stripes man stirs controversy after he fails to deliver the goods at a sold-out show at New York concert hall.

Jack White fans are seeing red.

That's because the former White Stripes frontman walked off the stage during a concert at New York City's Radio City Music Hall on Saturday after only playing 45 minutes--much too early for the sold-out crowd who paid a pretty penny to see White touring in support of his solo debut, Blunderbuss.

Now it's looking like a big blunder after his early exit sparked an angry row.

White powered through a dozen songs, among them the seminal White Stripes track "Ball and Biscuit" and cuts off the new record, including "Sixteen Saltines" and "Hypocritical Kiss."

But the Detroit rocker was visibly disturbed during breaks between tunes. So what was bugging White? Apparently his fans.

"Jesus Christ, is this an NPR convention?" White wondered aloud.

If he was whining about what he perceived to be the audience's lackluster energy, he wasn't exactly consistent. Because not long after, according to Rolling Stone, the mercurial singer-guitarist ordered the crowd to pipe down "because I can't hear myself think."

We guess their raucousness (or lack thereof) ultimately became too much for White to take. He pulled the plug soon thereafter.

And that didn't go over well with many concertgoers--some of whom drove from far away to see Jack live.

Confusion turned to boos and eventually anger as upset fans crowded around the famed venue's merchandise booths demanding refunds and mobbed two tour buses parked outside shouting obscenities like "F--k Jack White." Still others took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, with the hashtag "JackWhiteDebacle" drawing multiple posts.

Justin Bieber throws up on stage, keeps rockin'

Employees at Radio City were equally mystified.

"He wasn't happy with the sound," one security staffer told the New York Observer. "I don't know why he pulled that."

A rep for the rocker declined to comment.

While he doesn't appear to have the dedication of, say, Justin Bieber, who kept a gig going this weekend despite throwing up onstage, White did appear to make up for the mess however on Sunday night at his second show at Radio City by--how else?--playing a full set.
