2/11: Downtown Art Walk

It's free. It's downtown. Going?

DOWNTOWN ART WALK: It's every second Thursday of the month, which means it only happens 12 times a year. Up today/tonight: the February 2010 Artwalk Lounge at 114 W. Fifth (music, beverages, maps from 4:30-9PM). And the grand opening of Dialect, a brand-spankin' new gallery at 215 W. Sixth. Art Walk's on from noon-9PM. It's free.

KATE LINDER CELEBRITY CHARITY GALA: If you watch "The Young and the Restless" you know Kate Linder. Now the actress is hosting a benefit for the ALS Association, and inviting several stars to help out. Catwoman Julie Newmar, Rip Taylor, Dee Wallace, and many, many castmates from the daytime drama will be joining. The Montage, 6-11PM

"SWEENEY TODD": The Demon Barber of Fleet Street might seem a provocative choice for Valentine's Week. Or maybe not. Perhaps you loved the stage show, the theatrical songs, the grim settings. Musical Theater West is behind the curtain at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, through Sunday.

WRITING MOVIE MUSICALS: Speaking of "Sweeney Todd," and a thousand other singing/celluloid wonders, the WGA Foundation is looking at the scribes who make film people break into song. The writers behind "Hairspray," "Wicked," and "Enchanted" are on the panel. WGA, 7:30PM
