The first ever 'Chiesta' will take place at the LA Animal Services East Valley Animal Shelter at 14409 Vanowen St. in Van Nuys, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday July 1, 2017. Hosted by Save The Chi, a program with 'Rusco,' the star of the Beverly Hills Chihuahua film, along with actress and animal advocate Allison Eastwood. The event includes adoption and spay/neuter information, live music, food and fun.
Chihuahuas will be offered at a discounted adoption rate at all six LA Animal Services locations, including $83.50 for all dogs. Cats will also be available for $50.50. Free spay/neuter will be available at the East Valley Animal Shelter, for low income L.A. city residents courtesy of the Lucy Foundation, call to check eligibility and schedule an appointment at 855-499-5829. Ask about low cost vaccinations and microchips from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. too.
Chihuahuas exploded in popularity years ago and over-breeding and homelessness followed. The breed is the most euthanized in animal shelters due to the volume and lack of space.
Remember to also safeguard your pets by keeping them indoors leading up to the 4th of July holiday, when most animals are alarmed by fireworks and escape, often ending up at shelters.
Save the Chi is a partnered effort of 501c(3) nonprofit organizations LA 4 Animals Foundation and Eastwood Ranch Foundation to address Chihuahua over population and euthanasia through education, relocation transports, and spay/neuter.
