About 90 miles northeast of LA, the rustic, sleepy town of Ojai has long been in the shadows of chic neighbor Santa Barbara and commercial Ventura. Thanks to a recent influx of wine bars, bistros, coffee shops and farmers' markets, the limelight has finally shifted to Ojai. Best to go now, before they remodel one of the artists' community's crown jewels, The Oaks at Ojai. The wellness retreat opened in 1977, and is getting a make-over this fall.
