You can learn how to cook a turkey, sans drama.

One day, you're dipping caramel apples, messily, getting hot sugar hither and yon. Then you're making sugar skulls for Dia de los Muertos. And then, without pause, it is all stuffing, all the time.

If you were looking for a momentary let-up between Halloween treats and the staples of the Thanksgiving table, that arrived at about 9:17 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, and lasted about 20 minutes. Did you enjoy it? Because it is over now.

To whit: Barbrix is hosting its "Everything But the Bird" class on Saturday, Nov. 6. Two spots just opened up in the popular class, which will cover sides in addition to the bird (we know, the name says otherwise). Cost is $75.

Will 2010 be your first year hosting the dinner? An in-person instruction can't be a bad thing. We can watch all the videos we want online, but having someone there to recommend a different manner of basting -- "more hot butter," we hope is the recommendation -- has to be helpful.
