Ho-Ho-Oooh, Ahhhh Holiday Fireworks

The Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks show on Sunday is free

The holidays in Southern California wouldn't be complete without ... fireworks.

Admittedly a bit unusual by middle-America standards, but nonetheless totally understandable in an upper-middle-class, Wisteria-Lane-like beach environment, the city of Manhattan Beach has yet again scheduled its Holiday Fireworks Festival for Sunday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

Those interested in attending this free event could drive and hunt for parking -- as someone with in-laws in Manhattan Beach, I'd suggest you get there very early -- or, you could take advantage of the ride the Southbay Cruisers are organizing through the Rock The Bike Web site.

Just to be clear, they're not watching the fireworks while riding their bikes. They're riding to the fireworks, then riding back to Hermosa Pier where they're planning to hold their own holiday dance. There's a chance they may also take a detour down Candy Cane Lane in Torrance to view the many holiday displays there.

And, somewhere in the middle of all that you can call your family in Wisconsin on the mobile and ask them what they're up to, how the weather is, etc...
