By all accounts -- on Twitter, at least -- Steely Dan at the Gibson Amphitheater on Monday night was nothing short of rapturous.
The crowd, which appeared to “be younger than when they played Anaheim,” thought the “14-piece band, with Larry Carlton on guitar” was in top form and “exceeded expectations.” The “unbelievable musicians” were “MAGIC. PURE. MAGIC.” Of course, the “smell of pot” was abundant.
And to round out the comments with something so-very Los Angeles-y, one person noted that “it sounds funny to hear people with heavy New York accents sing Steely Dan” songs. Never mind that Donald Fagen and Walter Becker actually met in New York in 1967 and lived there through the 70s. If you’re in California, sing like a Californian, man.
Good news for those who missed it: Steely Dan plays again tonight.
