Loews Coronado Bay Surf Dog Competition

The annual bark fest hits the famous waves once again.

Loews Coronado Surf Dog

DOGS AND WATER: If you've ever played parent to a pup you know that your dog either a) will hide anywhere if he hears the bath water running or b) will attempt to jump in the tub while the water is running. We've yet to meet a pooch who is completely middle-of-the-road about H20, with more of them landing on the "love it" side. Dogs and the ocean have a similarly strong relationship, hence the continual emergence of dog beaches and events held on the sand. Because waggers romping in the waves? That's been going on long before any of us got here. Granted, dogs on surfboards is a much more recent development, but it charms, especially when those dogs are out their raising money for other dogs. Which is what will again happen at the Loews Coronado Bay Surf Dog Competition on Saturday, June 16.

BARKERS ON BOARD(S): The Imperial Beach bash billed as "the nation's original surfing competition for man's best friend." Several life-jacket-wearing hounds will climb a board a board and head out into the surf, all under the watchful eye of nearby humans. Will the cameras be out? You bet. Will this lend a paw to the Loews Hotels Loews Loves Pets program, which helps out pet charities? Woof. And will the Ultimate Champion Round go on to be a "poster dog" for the hotel company? That's the way it'll work. If you want to stay in the area, the Loews Coronado Bay has a surfdog package going, so get all the dogly details.
