NBC4's The Challenge and Hero of the Night

NBC4's The Challenge, a live show covering local sports hosted by Sports Anchor Fred Roggin, is back for the 2017 football season, airing every week after Sunday Night Football. The Challenge also features a local "Hero of the Night" each week to salute the men and women across Southern California who serve the community.

On September 10, The Challenge featured Detective London McBride from the UCLA Police Department.  Watch the segment here.

Special Enforcement Bureau Deputies Kamal Ahmad and Jim Moss of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were the featured heroes on September 17.  Watch their story here.

On September 24, Anaheim Police Department Sergeant Daniel Gonzalez was the Hero of the Night for for his outstanding service to the community. Here he is live on The Challenge.

Heroes of the Night on October 1 were Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies Kevin Mahoney and Brian Keeney.  Watch how they recently saved someone's life here

This week’s Hero of the Night on October 8 is Pasadena Firefighter/Paramedic Rich Roldan, who just returned from assisting in Hurricane Maria relief efforts. Check out his story.

On October 15, Covina Police Sergeant Tony Zavala was featured as our Hero of the Week.  Here he is featured on The Challenge.

Glendale Firefighter Gil Pedroza is the hero of the week on October 22.  Pedroza has a passion for serving the community and teaching aspiring firefighters -- watch him on The Challenge.

Several men of the San Bernardino County Fire Department: Bob Brockert, Matt Helmcamp, Mike Kordich and Dave Arnold helped save lives during the tragic Las Vegas shooting in October.  This team joined The Challenge on November 5 as our heroes.

Our Heroes of the Night on November 12 come from the Fontana Police Department's Internet Task Force, including Marcia Pineda, Vanessa Waggoner, Jeremy Hale and George Winters.

On November 19, we honored U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Michael Guayante, our Hero of the Night.

Sgt. Todd Samuels and Officer Paul Lucifora of the Pomona Police Department were Heroes of the Night on November 26 - watch here.

On December 10, NBC4 honored Officer and Marine Corp Veteran Quinn Hanley and his K-9 partner Rudy of the Upland Police Department who have worked on dozens of arrests and seized illegal narcotics over the last year. Watch how impressive these two are here.

On December 17, The Challenge's Hero of the Night was Loma Linda Fire Engineer Josh Cartee who not only works for the fire department but also volunteers at Loma Linda Children's Hospital and the Warrior Built Foundation. Meet our hero!

On December 31, U.S. Army Private Second Class Trevor Filson was our final Hero of the Night for 2017. The San Bernardino native is stationed in Texas preparing for deployment.  Meet him him here.
