Plywood Report: Syrup Desserts, Dessert Bar on the Way

Downtown: It's been all about Downtown LA lately, from Chaya to Bottega Louie to BottleRock, and now on to Richard Blais' anticipated molecular gastronomy enclave, plus a new tequila bar in the works from Varnish and Cole's owner Cedd Moses. But hold your horses, there's even more. Opening at the end of this month in the Hayward Hotel is Syrup Desserts and blogdowntown caught up with owners Stan Lin and Steven Seav for a brief Q&A. Frankly, it was only a matter of time before NYC's past dessert bar craze switched coasts, and now Downtown has one to call its own. Part coffee house part sweet spot, Syrup Desserts will start by serving coffee drinks, Belgian waffles and crepes, plus ice cream and gelato, then transitions into eventually serving sandwiches and salads. And, for a sweet-savory twist, there will even be a sweet grilled cheese sandwich for the more adventurous. [blogdowntown]
