Police Remind Vacationing Youngsters About Curfew Laws

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Thousands of students are about to start their two-week winter vacation, and at least one police department reminded them Wednesday that officers will be enforcing a local curfew ordinance for minors.

Like many cities, Long Beach prohibits people below the age of 18 from being in any public place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Long Beach police said officers will be taking the juvenile curfew ordinance seriously.

"Our experience has shown that children who are on the street after curfew are more likely to become victims of violent crime, and are also more likely to become involved in criminal behavior," according to a department statement.

Long Beach police have added staff to the Youth Services Division "to accommodate any enforcement action."
