The Dodgers entered Tuesday's match against the Mets with their third six-game winning streak of the season, looking for their first seven-game winning streak in more than three years. They faced a big obstacle with the Mets' ace and All-Star starter, Matt Harvey, but handled the challenge in a 4-2 win.
Before the seats were warm Hyun-Jin Ryu gave up a solo shot to Juan Lagares. It looked like a sure double, but the ball bounced off the top of the short, outfield wall near the left field bullpen, barely counting as a home run.
That was Ryu's one mistake of the game, as he finished with seven innings of five hit, one run ball. He only had three strikeouts, but did not find himself in trouble most of the night. In three of his last four starts, Ryu has lasted seven innings with a combined two earned runs, 12 hits and 19 strikeouts in those outings.
After giving up the solo jack in the first, it appeared Ryu would be fighting an uphill battle against Harvey, but the Dodgers got to the young right hander for four runs.
Harvey put a Dodger batter on base in five of six innings pitched, and they finally capitalized in the fifth inning after A.J. Ellis walked and Juan Uribe singled.
Nick Punto came up with another big hit, a two-run double down the left field line. Eric Young Jr. played the ball poorly, giving Uribe enough time to hoof it home all the way from first base, giving the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.
The Dodgers added on another two runs in the sixth on an Ellis single that scored Mark Ellis and Yasiel Puig, putting them up 4-1. They ended up needing those extra runs, because when Kenley Jansen came in for the save, he gave up a run in the process. It was his first since July 23, a stretch of 11 innings.
Wednesday is the series finale against the Mets, with the Dodgers throwing Chris Capuano against Dillon Gee.
Easy to get lost behind Kershaw and Greinke, but yeah he's great.

The universe is perfectly aligned. The #Dodgers are in 1st place & the #Giants are in last. As it should be. As it should be.
