Thousands Gather for Soundscapes in the Desert

It's massive, massively attended, it unfurls over a massive space, and the biggest stars in the business tend to get the massive amounts of attention, at least in the months leading up to the ginormous spectacular. It's the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which rolls from April 17th through the 19th, and with an acknowledgement that Paul McCartney's much ballyhooed appearance is nabbing a lot of the headlines -- and rightfully so -- hello, he's Paul McCartney and he's the majorest of the major -- we wanted to give a shout out to a few other amazing acts on the enormous and lengthy Coachella roster.

So, howdy Calexico. We think your laid-back, mysterious, parched-landscape vibes are a perfect fit for the sun-drenched scene. And Amanda Palmer, hi. We like your arch, dramatic, completely fun orchestrations. We'll also want to give a pre-round of applause to the artists behind the huge, outlandish sculptures that always dot the Empire Polo Field (we still want to live in that steampunk tree house from last year), the dancers who prowl the grounds on stilts, the dedicated workers backstage who set up the equipment and greet the artists and feed the crews and do a zillion things all at once, and everyone else who comes together, in the heat, to pull off, year after year, one of the most famous and respected music festivals in the world.

You're totally going, right? Oh, we forgot: Temperatures are rising. Pack light.

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
April 17th-19th
