Tune in to NBC4 Southern California on Tuesday, August 11 at 7 p.m. for an hour-long special, “50 Watts,” which takes an in-depth look at one of the most significant times in Southern California history.
Co-hosted by NBC4 News at Noon Anchors Michael Brownlee and Carolyn Johnson, the special will explore this historic period through the lens of the community 50 years after the Watts riots.
There will be several stories, including Brownlee as he strolls through the neighborhood with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti while he shares his hopes for a promising future. “Fast & Furious” actor Tyrese Gibson reminisces with Reporter Kim Baldonado about growing up in Watts and what the area means to him.
Reporter Toni Guinyard talks to local residents who witnessed it all, and Political Reporter Conan Nolan takes us back when Watts was a thriving community before its drastic downturn following the riots.
