Firefighter, Last of 3 Defendants, Pleads No Contest in Halloween Night Assault Case

Los Angeles city firefighter Eric Carpenter, who faced multiple felonies for an incident that took place outside a Chatsworth home on Halloween 2015, pleaded no contest Tuesday, to a reduced charge of misdemeanor assault.

Carpenter was one of three defendants charged in connection with the case. Two co-defendants, including Firefighter Michael Vitar who gained fame as "Benny The Jet" in the movie "the Sandlot," previously entered no contest pleas.

Michael A. Goldstein, Carpenter's attorney told NBC News his client is relieved that the case has been resolved.

"As confident as we were that jury would have ultimately acquitted Mr. Carpenter, we realize that there always risks associated with trial and appreciate the hard work and consideration the District Attorney put into this case and the fact that they carefully considered the substantial investigation done by the defense."

"My client and others responded to the erratic and bizarre behavior by the other party, who refused to leave the area after being asked several times," Goldstein added.
