Body Found Inside Burned Vehicle Near Loyola Marymount University

After authorities found a burned body inside of a car near the campus of Loyola Marymount University early Thursday, police said they are investigating the death as a suicide.

Flames were spotted at around 2:15 a.m. off the roadway near Loyola Marymount Drive and Lincoln Boulevard, said Los Angeles Police Department Lt. John Radtke.

After firefighters put out the flames, the body of a 19-year-old man was found in the driver's seat of a white Ford Mustang, which was also damaged by the fire.

The crash did not happen on campus grounds, and there was no indication that the person has any ties to the school, Radtke said.

The Los Angeles Police Department told NBC4 they were officially investigating the death as a suicide later Thursday morning, after receiving information from family and reviewing evidence from the scene that shows the man may have set the car on fire himself.
