The body found in a car in El Segundo was identified Thursday as that of a 19-year-old woman from Guatemala.
Karla Cristina Morales-Escobar was found dead at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of California and East Elm streets, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. An autopsy was pending.
Famiy members in Los Angeles said she had been in the United States for about a month. They are making plans to bring her body back to Guatemala.
Someone had called to report an abandoned car, and when officers arrived, they found her body.
Sheriff's homicide detectives were assisting El Segundo police in the investigation.
