Elderly Man Stabbed in the Neck Near Norwalk Wienerschnitzel Restaurant

A man in his 70s was stabbed in the neck Saturday in Norwalk in an unprovoked attack by a man who got away, authorities said.

It happened about 1:30 p.m. at a bus stop in front of Der Wienerschnitzel restaurant on Imperial Highway and Woods Avenue, Sgt. Eric Arias of the Norwalk Sheriff's Station said.

The suspect -- described as a man between the ages of 20 and 30 -- walked up behind the victim and stabbed him in the neck with a small pocket knife, according to Arias, who said no words were exchanged between the two men and the victim did nothing to warrant the attack.

"It was a little bizarre," Arias said.

The victim, a transient, was taken to a hospital for treatment of a puncture wound to his neck but had stable vital signs, the sergeant said.

Deputies were not able to get significant information from people inside the restaurant, Arias said.
