Family Accused of Mail Theft to Make Court Appearance

A family of three who led police on a pursuit after allegedly stealing mail from an upscale Orange County neighborhood last week was set to make a court appearance Tuesday.

David Brown, 45, his 55-year-old wife Jessica Smith Roten and their 22-year-old son Corey Dillon Richardson were scheduled to be arraigned. All three face identity theft charges, and Brown faces one count of evading while driving recklessly, court records show.

On Friday, the Anaheim family allegedly swiped mail from the equestrian community of Nellie Gail Ranch in Laguna Hills before leading authorities on a pursuit, driving in opposite lanes and narrowly missing other drivers in rush hour traffic, before being arrested near a Downey gas station.

It was unclear if the family had an attorney.

According to a felony complaint, Brown’s legal troubles date back more than two decades, when in 1993 he was convicted of vehicle theft.
