A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning for a 42-year-old Long Beach police officer who lost his battle with cancer last week.

The service for Officer Brian Collette will take place at 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Church, located at 4505 Katella Ave. in Cypress.

Collette died Thursday after a months-long battle with cancer, according to a Long Beach Press-Telegram obituary.

Collette joined the Long Beach Police Department in December 1995, a department spokeswoman told the newspaper. Collette worked in all patrol divisions, including field support, as a DARE instructor, Emergency Operations Homeland Security Detail, SWAT technician and Explorer Program adviser.
