Gov. Jerry Brown Friday announced the appointment of three new judges in Los Angeles County.
Named to the Superior Court were:
-- Joseph J. Burghardt, 46, of Manhattan Beach, who has been a deputy public defender with the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office since 2000. He was previously a trial attorney at Federal Defenders of San Diego Inc. from 1997 to 2000.
-- Lisa S. Tamashiro Coen, 45, of Fullerton, who has been a deputy district attorney with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office since 2000. She was a sole practitioner from 1999 to 2000 and an associate at a law firm from 1998 to 1999.
-- Anne Hwang, 42, of View Park-Windsor Hills, the chief deputy public defender for the Federal Public Defender's Office's Central District of California. She has worked for the office since 2006, in posts including chief of the Los Angeles trial unit, supervising deputy federal public defender and deputy federal public defender. She was an associate at Irell & Manella LLP from 2002 to 2006.
All three will fill vacancies created by the conversion of court commissioner positions in October.
