Gunman in Lancaster Standoff Surrenders

El Dorado Elementary School in Lancaster was locked down Tuesday morning as police negotiated with an armed and barricaded man in a nearby home. The standoff ended more than 8 hours later when the man surrendered.

Students were released early during the stand off.

Representatives from the court services division of Los Angeles County requested sheriff’s deputies to come to the home near the intersection of 4th Street and Avenue J at 10:20 a.m.

Court services is a division that serves court paperwork, including evictions and other notices.

It is unknown if anyone else is inside the home. Several surrounding streets are closed.

A nearby preschool was also locked down or already evacuated, said Sgt. Chris Bergo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lancaster Station.
