New Year Brings Route and Cost Changes to LAX FlyAway

Travelers who rely on FlyAway buses to reach Los Angeles International Airport will have to make note of service changes taking effect in the new year.

Beginning Tuesday, the cost of parking at the Van Nuys FlyAway Bus Terminal will be $1 per hour, up to a maximum of $5 per day -- a net increase of $1 per day. The cost of the one-way Van Nuys FlyAway service will remain unchanged at $9.75.

Beginning Jan. 7, service hours will be reduced on the Westwood FlyAway route. The route will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., meaning the existing service at 6 and 7 a.m. and 9, 10 and 11 p.m. will be eliminated.

Officials with Los Angeles World Airports said the reduction in hours was being implemented due to low ridership on the early morning and late night buses.

The Westwood FlyAway fare will remain $10 one way.

Beginning Feb. 1, the Van Nuys FlyAway service will no longer include pick-ups and drop-offs at the Orange Line Metro station near Victory Boulevard and Woodley Avenue. LAWA officials said the Orange Line location averages only one passenger pickup for every seven trips, and fell as low as one pickup for every 10 trips earlier this year.

FlyAway service from all other locations will remain unchanged.
