Local Nonprofit to Raise Funds for Children, Pets Affected by Abuse

The local non-profit Kathy's Legacy Foundation will host a fundraising event Saturday to support children and pets whose lives have been affected by domestic violence.

The event, "Reviving Hope, A Culinary Experience," will feature gourmet food and cocktails, performances by a magician and a silent auction. Fox 5 News journalist Phil Blauer is expected to emcee the event, according to the foundation.

The foundation was formed after the 2011 murder of Kathy Scharbarth, a victim of domestic violence whose dog, Lady, witnessed her murder.

"Having the opportunity to help families who have lived through unthinkable trauma of domestic violence homicide drives us to work hard," foundation President Jim Willis said. "We want to insure the healing process isn't stunted because of a lack of resources."

Tickets to the fundraiser can be purchased for $125 at kathyslegacy.org. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Vault Miramar, located at 9340 Dowdy St., Suite 102.
