Stretch of Freeway Reopened After Pursuit Driver Fatally Struck by Oncoming Truck

All lanes of the northbound 101 Freeway between the northbound 5 and westbound 60 freeways were reopened early Wednesday morning after a driver wanted in a pursuit ran onto the freeway and was fatally struck by a truck, authorities said.

The northbound 5 Freeway and the westbound 60 transitions to the northbound 101 were closed after the crash, as well as Fourth Street between North Boyle Avenue and Pecan, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

Authorities responded to reports of a pedestrian struck around 3 a.m. on the northbound 101 at East Fourth Street, authorities said.

For unknown reasons, CHP officials attempted to stop a black Toyota traveling on the northbound 5, which failed to yield.

The vehicle crashed into a fence and a tree at Fourth Street, authorities said.

The driver fled on foot and onto the freeway, where he was struck and killed by a box truck, authorities said.
