A car-to-car shooting on the northbound 110 Freeway in Carson sent one driver to the hospital and has police searching for the suspect Thursday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
The injured driver called CHP after noticing his window was shot out. When officers arrived on the scene, they determined he had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, said Officer Tatiana Sauquillo with CHP.
The incident happened around 2:45 Thursday afternoon near the Torrance Boulevard exit.
The victim was described as a 21-year old Asian man from Placentia. He was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.
“He caught most of the fragments in his head,” Sgt. Dave Nelms of the CHP told NBC4 Friday.
The CHP says only two witnesses have come forward and their stories are being investigated as they try to find out what led to the shooting.
“Many people in their cars, they’re in their own little world,” Nelms said. “They’re not really paying attention to what’s going on around them.”
The one thing that has investigators puzzled is the gaping hole in the vehicle’s window. They don’t know exactly what kind of weapon was used.

“It appears to be some kind of shot weapon,” said Nelms. “It was smaller shot, but it did come out in a spray matter, that kind of thing.”
Authorities did not release a suspect description.
The incident closed down the northbound fourth lane until further notice, CHP said. Around 5:20 p.m., all northbound lanes were closed for about 30 minutes at the Torrance Boulevard exit as police searched the freeway for evidence.
