14-Year-Old High School Cheerleader Dies

Devon Christine Miller died this morning of cardiac arrest

A 14-year-old cheerleader at Beaumont High School died today at a hospital in Banning.

Devon Christine Miller died this morning of cardiac arrest, apparently related to an undisclosed illness from which she had been suffering, according to a bulletin on the Beaumont Unified School District's Web site.

Grief counselors were standing by to assist her classmates, the school district announced.

School officials said Miller died at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital. There were no indications her death was connected with school activities, officials said.

The ninth-grader "took part in numerous campus sports" as well as other extracurricular programs, according to the bulletin.

She attended Three Rings Ranch Elementary School and Mountain View Middle School in Beaumont.
