5 Firefighters Injured Battling 3-Alarm Fire in Compton

A fifth firefighter was injured during the rescuing process, officials said.

Five firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a 3-alarm structure fire in Compton late Saturday night. 

The fire was reported just after 11 p.m. in the 800 block of East Laurel Street in Compton, officials said.

Firefighters arrived to a one-story detached, covered garage fully engulfed in flames, Compton Fire Battalion Chief Vincent Capelli said.

Two firefighters were on top of the roof and two others were inside the garage when the roof collapsed, trapping the four firefighters, Capelli said. All four were quickly located; a fifth firefighter had suffered injuries while rescuing the the trapped firefighters, officials said. 

Officials confirmed that the five firefighters, all from Compton Fire, were transported to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. All were expected to recover.

Multiple fire agencies were on scene battling the fire and had the fire fully knocked down just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
