7 Wal-Mart Stores Closing in Southern California

Seven Wal-Mart stores in Southern California are among the 154 locations across the U.S. that are slated to close, the world's largest retailer announced Friday.

The closures will affect about 10,000 employees across the nation and will mostly impact the company's Walmart Express stores, which account for 102 of the closings.

In Southern California, the follow locations will be shuttered this month:

  • 4101 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, closing Jan. 17
  • 701 W Cesar E. Chavez Ave., Los Angeles, closing Jan. 17
  • 151 E 5th St., Long Beach, closing Jan. 28
  • 12120 Carson St., Hawaiian Gardens, closing Jan. 28
  • 2045 E Highland Ave., San Bernardino, closing Jan. 28
  • 6820 Eastern Ave., Bell Gardens, closing Jan. 28
  • 2408 Lincoln Ave., Altadena, closing Jan. 28

"More than 95 percent of the closed stores in the U.S. are within 10 miles on average of another Walmart, and the hope is that these associates will be placed in nearby locations," the company said in a statement.

In all, 269 Wal-Mart stores across the world will close, but as many as 405 stores will open globally in the coming fiscal year as the company shifts its focus toward Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets in profitable locations.
