A pile of wood about 100-feet wide and 100-feet tall burned Monday night in Irvine.
Orange County firefighters responded to the large fire at a facility in the 7900 block of Marine Way. About 70 firefighters, five fire engines, and two water tenders were at the scene of the fire, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
No structures nearby were threatened but multiple residents called to report the flames.
Firefighers said the smoke from the blaze was visible miles away from the scene.
OCFA Battalion Chief George Casario said firefighters could not do much with water but would use bulldozers to move pieces of the compost to confine and extinguish. Firefighters would work throughout the early morning, he said.
Firefighters recommended nearby residents keep their windows closed to avoid the smoke. The fire was knocked down early Tuesday morning.
