A memorial service was set Sunday for a 9-year-old girl who was stabbed to death allegedly by her father in a murder and attempted suicide in Long Beach.
The incident was reported on Saturday at 11 a.m., when Long Beach police responded to a parking lot where two bodies had been found by a woman driving through Woodruff Avenue and Willow Street.
That woman, Nancy Eomurian, told NBC4’s Nancy Crouch that she saw the man get up off the pavement and start to walk away.
“He had actually gotten up and started to leave, but he had blood on him,” Eomurian said.
Police found the body of a 9-year-old girl, who was not identified, on the ground in the parking lot.
She had cuts to her body and was reported dead at the scene.
A male adult found near the victim, suffered what detectives believe to be self-inflicted cuts to his body. He was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect and victim, both Long Beach residents, shared a parent/child relationship,” police said in a press release.
Police believe the man stabbed the girl and then tried to commit suicide.
A motive was not known.
Police said that they were going to book the suspect into jail on a murder charge after he’s released from the hospital.

A public service for the girl is being held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Los Altos United Methodist Church in Long Beach.
