Gunman Killed, 1 Wounded in Wilmington Officer-Involved Shooting, Police Say

A gunman was killed in an officer-involved shooting Monday night in Wilmington.

No officers were injured in the shooting, which occurred about 6:30 p.m. in the area of 1000 South Figueroa Street near West Anaheim Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers from the LAPD's Harbor Station responded to a shots fired call at a mobile home park and arrived to find a man armed with a handgun, "and an officer-involved shooting occurred," according to an LAPD statement.

"The suspect was struck by gunfire and officers requested Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics to respond," police said. "Despite the paramedics' efforts, the suspect was pronounced dead at (the) scene. No officers were injured and a weapon was recovered."

Cell phone video showed another man involved in an incident prior to the officers' arrival, with the man being taken away on a stretcher. Police declined to disclose the injured man's role or his condition.

Neighbors recalled shouting and gunshots, but everyone NBCLA encountered seemed to think that officers behaved appropriately.

"One of the policemen was pointing a gun towards one of the houses, saw he was armed," Annette Pickard, a neighbor says. "That's when cops shot. He wasn't responding to the authorities."
