Heavy Smoke Rises Above North County as Brush Fire Burns Near County Border

Firefighters have stopped the forward progress of a 25-acre brush fire burning near the San Diego and Orange County border, Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) officials said.

A plume of thick, heavy smoke above North County could be seen for miles Wednesday afternoon.

The fire broke out at the end of Avenida Pico in San Clemente, near a complex of homes by the County border. The flames are burning away from nearby homes, OCFA officials said.

At 3 p.m., the more than 75 firefighters at the scene stopped the forward progression of the fire. They continue to work on putting it out.

Two helicopters and two air tankers are making water drops as well.
