Two fires started at the exact same time about 250 meters apart in Kern County Sunday, with one of the fires threatening homes and forcing mandatory evacuations, fire officials said.

The northern fire, which was the smaller of the two fires, was holding at 75 acres with 85% containment, according to the Kern County Fire Department.

The southern fire was at 350 acres with 30% containment as of 6:42 p.m., according to the county's fire department. The location of the fire was near the 5 Freeway southbound, north of the Tejon Pass and near Digier Road, according to the Kern County FD.

Homes on Digier Road were under mandatory evacuations, but no structures had been burned as of 6:42 p.m.
