Police Officer Shoots, Injures Knife-Wielding Man in South LA

Suspect transported to hospital.

A knife-wielding man was wounded by a police officer who shot the suspect Thursday night in South Los Angeles, police said.

The officer-involved shooting was reported around 11:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of W. 29th Street. Police arrived and found a "mentally disturbed" man holding an object. Police ordered the man to drop the knife, but he did not comply. At some point, one of the officers shot the suspect, according to  LAPD Sgt. Carlton Brown.

The suspect was injured and transported to a hospital where he was in stable condition, according to the LAPD.

No officers were injured during the shooting.

The shooting was under investigation.
