Power Outages Reported in Santa Monica Due to ‘Blown Transformers'

About 3,600 people were without power Monday afternoon in a Santa Monica neighborhood where firefighters were dispatched to investigate reports of blown transformers and downed wires.

Firefighters responded to an underground vault explosion and two above-ground transformer problems in a neighborhood near 14th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard at about midday. All of the incidents are related, fire officials said.

Lincoln Middle School is affected. Students are sheltering in place and are safe, the fire department said.

The 1300 block of Montana Avenue was closed for the investigation.

Details regarding power outages were not immediately available.
