Beloved Tortoise Bubba Goes Missing From Middle School

Bubba is missing.

The beloved tortoise and mascot at Los Angeles' Paul Revere Charter Middle School crawled out of a fence Thursday morning and school officials fear someone took the rare 140-pound reptile to be resold.

Craig Honda, a science teacher at the school and Bubba's caretaker, said students saw someone take Bubba, put her in a white truck and take off on Sunset Boulevard.

"She was a huge part of lives here at school," said Honda. "She was so gentle with everyone who met her. The kids just love her."

Bubba is part of the school's farm program which also boasts frogs, chickens and goats. Bubba had even adopted the goats there, Honda said.

"They grew up with her and see her as their mom," he said. "It would mean the world to have Bubba back safely. She brings the school a whole new light and spirit."
