Freeway Ramp Closed for Hours After Tanker Spill

The tanker crashed on a transition road from the 5 Freeway to the 126 Freeway north of Santa Clarita

Exit ramps at the 5 Freeway and Route 126 north of Santa Clarita are closed Tuesday after a morning crash and spill involving a tanker truck.

About 300 gallons of liquid leaked onto the ramp off the 5 Freeway at Route 126, which is closed in both directions for a hazardous materials team response. It was not immediately determined how much of the spill entered the storm drain system, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Traffic delays are expected on the 5 Freeway and 126. No timeline to reopen the road was immediately available, but crews were working to upright the big rig and clean the spill at about 1:30 p.m.

The liquid that spilled from the tanker was identified as clay acid, a liquid substance used to treat soil.

No evacuations were ordered.
